A gift to know you  / Kay Diamond (Findlay Friend )
My heart is breaking for you, Deb. It feels so impossible that she's gone. I know she is still very much the free, joyful spirit she has always been, and more so--I feel that as clear as can be. Yet the thought of not seeing her sunshine face on Sunday, or hearing her laughter, or listening to her wise counsel as we make difficult decisions, feels like a piercing of the heart of our community. They say God enters through a wound, so I know God is surely pouring into all of our hearts through Eileen, and will be for a long time. I am grateful for the gift of serving on the Board with Eileen--a time to get to know each other in the nitty, gritty details of doing the business of the church with as much integrity, wisdom, laughter and goodness as I have seen. She will always be a role model for me, as will your relationship be. You and she together are one of God's secret weapons of Love in this world. Know that you are in our prayers, as are both your families. Close

Eileen will always be a guiding light  / Sally Friedman (co worker )
Dear Debbie and all of Eileens FAmily, I have so many wonderful memories of Eileen. My heart is with you all because it is so hard to believe she is not here. Dear Eileen Who am I going to bug now and who is going to edit my writing? I can see you fluffing up the air and bringing calmness to the space. I see you smiling and talking about your national parks book and were you are going to get stamps. I see you stopping by for red licorish. I see you working hard and still making time for me to tell you my latest complaint about "the system" and you calming me down. I see you singing "we are the world" and showing me the web cams in montana. I see you helping me with my Palm pilot and making me laugh. I always loved finding you in the stands at the Storm games with Debbie. I have so many memories that I will always take with me. What I hope is that you are up there laughing with all of us as we think about all our good memories of you, because we will be for years and years to come. So keep wataching. Thank you for being in my life. I am so lucky to have met you. And thank you for making the work we do so meaningful to our communities and how you kept making Senior Services better and better. Love, Sally Close

Love, Service, Family, Shanghai and the pursuit of stamps  / Kelly Murphy (Nephew)

Aunt Eileen,

You set an amazing example in your life and I will always remember the way you lived.  I love you!

Love and Service - 26 years at senior services along with charitable donations and volunteerism not to mention contributions to your nieces and nephews in the form or a borrowed car, dinner or place to stay.

Family - You brought the family together so often for family events and travels and with Debbie attended so many family graduations etc.

Shanghai - Your humor and spirit added so much to so many great card games and memories and you won the last game we played.

Pursuit of stamps -  You pursued national park stamps with amazing energy and enthusiasm just the way you lived your life.  You taught us all that "there are stamps to be had..."

I am so sorry for your loss.  / Denise Klein (colleague)
Debbie, I don't think we met or perhaps we did last year at Soiree, but I don't really know you. Eileen was so remarkable and I can't begin to imagine the loss you must feel. She was one of a kind, a rare bird, a compassionate and courageous leader who led quietly and humbly. I can't wait for the party on the 24th to celebrate her enormous contributions to our agency and to the many, many people in the community whose lives she touched. Close

Eileen made this world a better place  / Dick Foley (coworker and friend )
It was my pleasure to work with Eileen for a number of years.  Her
professionalism was beyond question. Her expertise raised the quality of
life for many in our community.  She was also a woman of high principle,
of great generosity and of engaging warmth and humor.  She'll be deeply
missed because of all that she had not yet shared with us.  My deepest
sympathies are with her loved ones.  Eileen was a person who made this
world a better place.
Sincerely,
Dick Foley

Eileen,
Our hearts broke the day we lost you.  You were our family, and in many ways you were the glue that held us all together. I will forever cherish my last walk up the street to Senior Services with you. What a priceless conversation we had about "what is important in life".  My love and prayers are with your family and most especially Debbie.  Thank you for being the incredibly special person that you were.
Eternal love & gratitude, Kim Nelson

Will miss your presence  / Brent Long (Friend)  Read >>
Will miss your presence  / Brent Long (Friend)

It's so hard to believe that less than 2 weeks ago we buzzed down our car windows and talked to each other as I was leaving church, and then I drove off assuming how I would certainly see you again after your vacation. I know God's agenda is certainly different than our own sometimes, but part of me wishes we could have been consulted first! It seems that we mainly interacted re: church matters, so my remembrances revolve around meeting for budget talks, serving communion to you and Deb in your pew in back of the sanctuary, and listening to you at monthly church board meetings. You had such a gentle, yet profound way of expressing yourself . It reminds me of the old EF Hutton commercial, when the guy mentions to his friend in the restaurant that "my broker is EF Hutton", and the whole room becomes quiet, so significant where your thoughts. This separation will take some getting used to, though I know we all will continue to feel connected to you in spirit. Know that you are loved!

My kinda gal  / Pamela Leptich (Seester-in-law)
Eileen was my kinda gal ... so good, so kind, so caring, so smart, so low-key and easy to be around. Leavened of course with a sly sense of humor and funny irreverent streak. Nothing much got past her. She loved books and beer, travel, photography and swimming—oh how we could relate. And cut-throat cards—how fun is that but I wasn't in her league. She made a difference in the world and cared deeply, touching people through her work and in her love and generosity to our family. I personally want to thank her for swim trips and vanilla lattes when I was laid up. And I'm grateful for so many other things besides, including awesome turkey dinners and her love and care for my kids. But most of all I'm grateful because she made my sister so VERY happy.

Miss you darling, please watch over us.
Love, Pamela Close

Dear Eileen, I'm not sure who will miss you more: me and Carl, or our daughters Bailey and Greta. You and Deb made such a special bond with Greta from the day we walked through the doors of Findlay St. Church. While 8-month-old Greta crawled around in the back during services, you bore witness to her of God's silly humor and gentle nature with your goofy faces and sweet smiles to her. You played with her, talked to her and sometimes (when she let you) even held her. How does a mom thank friends for such a holy gift to her child? This past week, Greta (who is now 4) had her own special prayer for you: "Thank you for the world so sweet, thank you for Eileen."
Heaven shines brighter, but we will surely miss you here on earth. Our hearts and prayers are with you, and with Deb. Close

Our Eileen  / Lori Rolley (Seester in Law )  Read >>
Our Eileen  / Lori Rolley (Seester in Law )

Our Eileen.

Eileen is the voice of reason in our rowdy Crumb family.  She made us step up to the plate when it came to playing cards, one of our favorite past times when we get together.  Her quick wit, gentle laugh and what a caring soul!!!  She and Deb took the nieces and nephews camping, to ball games, played golf and hosted many a family get together.  It is hard to make sense of why she had to leave our world so soon, we need a voice of reason around in these crazy times.
Eileen is one of the most loving and true human beings around, you cannot say enough about her enormous strength of character, her strong sense of justice for those who cannot advocate for themselves.
Our Eileen will always be with us, she will visit us in our dreams and be there watching over Debbie.
Thank you Eileen for being part of our lives.
Love always and forever, Lori, Lenny and Matthew.
